Check your Walmart gift card balance only at walmart.com or by calling 1-888-537-5503.

Do not use third-party balance-check sites for Walmart cards — they often steal card data.

What Is a Walmart Gift Card?

A Walmart gift card is a closed-loop store gift card — it can be used at Walmart stores, Walmart.com, Sam's Club (check current terms), and Walmart gas stations. It cannot be used at other retailers.

Walmart gift cards are issued and managed by Walmart directly. They are available as physical cards in stores and as e-gift cards (digital delivery by email).

How to Check Your Walmart Gift Card Balance Safely

1

Go directly to walmart.com

Type walmart.com into your browser — do not click links in emails or search results. Look for the Gift Cards section in Account or navigate directly.

2

Or call the number on the card back

The phone number 1-888-537-5503 is printed on the back of most Walmart gift cards. This is the safest option if you cannot access the website.

3

Enter your 16-digit card number and 4-digit PIN

The PIN is on the back of the card under a scratch-off strip. Scratch carefully — an undamaged PIN area confirms the card has not been tampered with.

Common Problems and Solutions

Card declined in store

Check balance before your visit. If the card has a partial balance, tell the cashier to split the payment — most Walmart registers support split-tender. Walmart gift cards cannot be used for cash back transactions.

Card declined online

Make sure you are entering the card number and PIN correctly. For walmart.com purchases, add the gift card at checkout under "Gift Cards." You can apply multiple gift cards to a single order.

Balance zero after recent purchase

If you did not make the purchases shown in the transaction history, contact Walmart Gift Card customer service immediately. Save your original receipt as evidence.

Lost or stolen card

Walmart may be able to replace a lost or stolen card if you have your original receipt or the card number. Contact Walmart Gift Card support and keep all documentation.

Safety Warnings

  • Walmart will never ask you to pay fines, taxes, or fees with Walmart gift cards
  • Fake "Walmart survey" sites promise gift cards in exchange for personal information — these are scams
  • Inspect card packaging before buying — check for scratched PINs or resealed packaging
  • Do not share your card number and PIN in the same message or image online
